Opera in the Square more popular than ever
The deckchairs enjoyed an unusually long day out on Tuesday, 4th July when La Traviata, Live from the Royal Opera House, was streamed to Lyric Square. Some people were spotted reserving their favourite front-row deckchairs from the early afternoon, while others brought their best opera picnic blankets and treats. However people chose to watch, 750 people helped us to fill Lyric Square and enjoy the soaring notes of Verdi’s characters.
Alongside the dramatic performances from the Royal Opera House, Lyric Square was fortunate to enjoy view of the setting sun reflecting off the surrounding buildings. The Live stream also included an interval sing along – there were some bold attempts at joining in from Lyric Square! All this resulted in a fantastic and positive atmosphere in the Square.
We are looking forward to streaming our next Live opera on Friday, 14th July, Puccini’s final masterpiece Turandot. We recommend coming early to find your opera-viewing spot and bringing plenty of refreshments and blankets.
